Practice Potential: Mastering the Art of Selling Your Group Practice
A Masterclass for psychology group practice owners in Canada who are interested in selling
Are you interesed in selling your practice, but aren’t sure how to navigate the process?
In 2023, I decided that it was time to sell my psychology group practice. Although I knew some people who had done this in the US, I wasn't aware of anyone in Canada who had gone through this process. I decided to do it anyway, and ended up selling within six months of making that decision.
Since then, I've had so many of my colleagues ask me how I did it. What's the system? What's the process? Is my business large enough to sell? Profitable enough? What are my first steps? How do I find a buyer?
So what I did was develop a methodology that outlined how I sold my clinic. And that is what I outline in this masterclass.
This methodology is called:
Practice Potential: Mastering the Art of Selling Your Group Practice.
In this Masterclass, you learn:
· The 5 step process to selling your practice, including all the steps you need to take and how to take them
· What to focus on to prepare your practice to sell
· What buyers are specifically looking for
· What advisors and specialists you need to have in your corner
· Do you need a broker? What is their role?
· How to price your practice
· What is EBITDA?
· The different ways in which you can set up payment
· How to find a buyer
· NDAs, LOIs and due diligence
· Challenges that I experienced and learned from
· When and how to communicate to your team about the sale
· What happens after the sale goes through
· Managing the identity shift and stabilizing into your new life
WHO AM I?
I’m a PhD-trained clinical psychologist with over a decade of post-graduate experience.
I’ve worked in lots of settings- hospitals, mental health clinics, the Canadian Armed Forces mental health team to name a few- and I’ve also owned my own group private practice. I started working with clients in 2002.
I grew my Alberta-based group practice to make over 7 figures per year by 2023. I had retained all staff for 4 years, paid them well and had a great functioning team. I had no complaints, but I was starting a new business and was feeling stretched too thin. I decided to make a change.
I began exploring different options for selling my practice. It was more complex than I expected and wished that I knew someone who had been through the process. After lots of trial and error, I eventually sold for for a great price and learned so much along the way.
I’ve been repeatedly asked about how I did it, so I developed my methodology, Practice Potential, which outlines a 5-step process for selling a group psychology clinic in Canada.
I also offer 1:1 consultation to help support clinic owners through the process of selling their business. Contact me here to discuss.
